List of Personally Administered Items

Personally Administered Items (PAI) are the drugs, medicines and devices purchased by the practice and used on patients, for which the practice is reimbursed. The practice is paid 'NHS Basic Price' for the item, along with a 'Dispensing Fee'. For Prescribing-Only practices the income appears on PCSE as a 'Prescribing Drugs' payment. For Dispensing Practices, the income is included within the PCSE 'Dispensing Drugs' payment.

PAIs are identified in the Drug Tariff and also the Dictionary of Medicines and Devices. In total, there are over 3,000 claimable items. Therefore we recommend that practices prepare a list of the 30-40 that are relevant for their practice. To find out how to do this, take a look at this video:
